Champasak is a landrace cannabis growing area in Champasak Province, Laos, in the Southern Laos growing region. Its six accessions come from two sites on the Mekong lowland: five from Pakse District and one from Champasak District, about 27 km to the south. The province's other growing area is 4000 Islands, downstream.

Geography

The five Pakse accessions name no locality and share one point, at 93 m. The sixth gives a point to two decimal places in Champasak District; its seller's listing places the line directly across the Mekong from Isan.[1]

Cultivation

All six are landrace general populations. The five from Pakse are from the 2024 harvest and are named Pakse 'JC', in three numbered lots. They come from fields still in use, in a region where others also grow the crop. The seed is sown directly from July to September and the crop harvested from December to March; it is grown in rotation for recreation and medicine and made into ganja, flowers in 20 to 24 weeks and stands 2 to 3 m tall. The local name is ກັນຊາ, and enforcement is sporadic. Éloïse and Isabella collected them on 15 February 2025, on the LAOS02 expedition.

The sixth is Champasak, a line of The Real Seed Company, which reports that a Lao household grows it in Champasak District.[1] In August 2026 Angus gave its seed to the U.S. National Plant Germplasm System, where it is accession G 34097.[2]
