4000 Islands (Si Phan Don) is a landrace cannabis growing area in Khong District, Champasak Province, Laos, in the Southern Laos growing region. It takes its name from the island reach of the Mekong above the Cambodian border, and its six accessions share one point at 78 m.
Geography
All six accessions name no locality and share one point in Khong District. The area lies about 125 km downstream of the Champasak sites, at the southern end of the province.
Cultivation
All six are landrace general populations from the 2024 harvest, named Mekong Gold after two growers, Papa Mon and Khun Wath, with three lots each. They come from single household fields. The seed is sown directly from July to September and the crop harvested from December to March; it is grown in rotation for recreation and medicine, flowers in 20 to 24 weeks and stands 2 to 3 m tall. The local name is ກັນຊາ, and enforcement is sporadic. Éloïse and Isabella collected all six on 15 February 2025, on the LAOS02 expedition.
