Balkhi General Population 2019 is a landrace cannabis accession collected at point of origin by the Real Seed Company in Balkh, northern Afghanistan in 2019.[1]

Geography

Balkh is located in northern Afghanistan at approximately 36°N latitude. The province is considered part of the hashish heartland of northern Afghanistan and a centre of cannabis culture and biodiversity.

This accession differs from the larger north Afghan cannabis strain known to Afghans themselves as Mazar-i-Sharif.

Collection Details

The accession was collected at point of origin in Balkh province in 2019. The seeds are autochthonous to the region.

Cultivation Details

In its region of origin, plants reach maturation in October. The accession is suitable for outdoor, greenhouse, or indoor cultivation.

Botanical Characteristics

Plants reach heights of 0.5 to 2 metres with extensive branching. The growth habit is bushy, often with an almost spherical architecture. Leaflets are broad.

The population is resinous. Chemotypes within the population range from THC-dominant to CBD-dominant, with some individuals also expressing THCV. This mixed chemotype profile is consistent with other charas landraces.

Aroma

Aromas are intense, ranging from citrus and lime to pine, sandalwood, and burnt rubber.
