Arcadian General Population 2005 (RSC Repro) is a landrace cannabis accession reproduced by the The Real Seed Company, originally collected by Delicorganic around Mantineia, Arcadia, Greece in 2005.[1]
Geography
Mantineia is located in the Arcadia region of the Peloponnese mountains in southern Greece, at approximately 37°N latitude.
The Arcadia region was historically renowned as a producer of sieved hashish of superior quality during the period when Greece served as the main exporter to East Mediterranean hashish markets. From the 1860s to the 1920s, hashish from the Peloponnese was smuggled from Greek ports and across the North African deserts to supply demand from Egyptian cities including Cairo and Alexandria.
Collection Details
The original accession of seeds was collected around Mantineia in 2005 by Delicorganic, a Greek grower who also maintains the Cretan and Kalamata landrace lines distributed by The Real Seed Company. The collection was made prior to the widespread introduction of modern hybrid cultivars to Greece and before any documented impact of modern strains on provincial regions such as the rural Peloponnese.
The accession may be representative of kannàvi, the drug-type cannabis (subsp. indica) that was cultivated on a large scale around Mantineia for over 60 years.
Seeds distributed by The Real Seed Company are from an open-pollination maintenance grow intended to preserve the full genetic diversity of the original accession.
Cultivation Details
In the Peloponnese, plants commence flowering around July to early August and reach maturation during the first half of October. The accession is suitable for outdoor, greenhouse, or indoor cultivation. Plants show resistance against mold and pests.
Botanical Characteristics
Plants reach heights of up to 2.5 meters with considerable lateral branching. Yields are moderate. Bud formation and maturation show some variation between individuals within the population but are dominated by classic Mediterranean hashplant morphology: resin glands are borne on long stalks, bud structure is loose, and bracts hold a high density of fully formed resin glands.
Despite more recent selection for use as bud, the main characteristics are consistent with historic domestication for production of sieved hashish.
Aroma
Aromas are mainly fruity, earthy, herbal, and slightly spicy. The quality of both dry-sieved and water-sieved hashish from these plants is high.
Effects
Euphoric, calming, focused, introspective, and creative. Also described as uplifting, active, with a vibrant visual quality, as well as calming or meditative.
Conservation Status
The accession is recorded at low conservation priority. The population is maintained ex situ by Delicorganic and distributed through The Real Seed Company via open-pollination maintenance grows. The original collection predates the introduction of modern hybrid genetics to provincial Greece.
